Gaming merchant account

Also called: esports merchant account, video game merchant account

A gaming merchant account is a payment processing account underwritten for businesses that banks classify as high-risk gaming: video game studios, esports platforms, in-game purchase systems, and licensed real-money iGaming operators. Standard processors routinely decline these merchants, so approval runs through high-risk specialists that underwrite chargeback exposure, regulatory status, and monthly volume.

Gaming merchant accountsits inside the broader system of U.S. payment processing economics that determine a merchant’s effective rate. Most operators encounter this term on their merchant statement without understanding what it controls, which is how the four hidden fees covered by our methodology slip past unnoticed.
